How Much Does a Website Cost in Ireland? A Straight Answer for Trades and Small Businesses

It's the first question almost everyone asks us, and it's a fair one. You'll see quotes for a website in Ireland that range from nothing at all to well over €10,000, and it's hard to know what you're actually paying for.

So here's a straight answer. We'll go through what websites typically cost, what changes the price, the costs people forget about, and how to work out what makes sense for your business.

The short answer

In our experience, most Irish trades and small businesses end up in one of four places:

  1. Do it yourself builders like Wix or Squarespace. Usually somewhere around €15 to €45 a month, plus a lot of your own evenings. Cheap on paper, but your time isn't free and the results often look like a template.
  2. A freelancer. Typically a once off fee somewhere between €500 and €2,500, depending on the person and the size of the site. Quality varies a lot, and support after launch can be hit and miss.
  3. An agency build. Often €2,500 to €10,000 or more for a custom site. You usually get a more polished job, but it's a big upfront spend for a small business.
  4. A monthly website plan. You pay a set monthly fee instead of a big upfront cost, and hosting, changes and support are rolled in. These commonly run from about €40 to €150 a month.

None of these is wrong. The right one depends on how much time you have, how much you want to spend up front, and how much you need the website to actually bring in work.

What actually changes the price

Two websites can look similar and still be priced very differently. These are the things that usually make the difference:

  1. Number of pages. A one page site is a very different job to a site with a separate page for every service and every area you cover.
  2. Custom design or template. A template is quicker and cheaper. A custom design is built around your business and your customers.
  3. Who writes the words. Good copy that sounds like you and mentions the services and towns people search for takes time. Some providers include it, some expect you to write it yourself.
  4. Photos. Real photos of your work make a huge difference. Stock photos are cheaper but customers can usually tell.
  5. Features. Quote request forms, online booking, galleries, reviews pulled in from Google, live chat or an AI receptionist all add to the build.
  6. SEO setup. Proper page titles, descriptions, Google Business Profile links and local keywords are what help you get found. Some cheap builds skip this completely.

The costs people forget about

The build price is only part of the picture. Before you sign anything, ask about these:

  1. Domain name. A .ie or .com address usually costs somewhere around €10 to €30 a year.
  2. Hosting. Your website has to live somewhere. This can be a small monthly or yearly fee, or it can be included.
  3. Business email. An address like info@yourbusiness.ie looks far more professional than a Gmail account, but it's often a separate cost.
  4. Changes and updates. New prices, new photos, a new service. Some providers charge by the hour for every small change.
  5. Security and maintenance. Older WordPress sites in particular need regular updates and plugins kept up to date, or they become an easy target.
  6. Legal basics. A privacy policy, cookie banner and terms are expected on any business website that collects enquiries.

A site that's cheap to build but costs you every time you need something changed can work out a lot dearer over two or three years.

Once off payment or monthly plan?

A once off build suits you if you have the budget now, you're happy to look after hosting and updates yourself or pay someone when needed, and you don't expect to change the site much.

A monthly plan suits you if you'd rather not find a big lump sum, you want someone else to handle hosting, security and changes, and you'd like the site to keep improving rather than sitting still once it's launched.

For most busy tradespeople we talk to, the deciding factor is time. If you're on site all day, you don't want to be logging in at night to update a website.

What a trade or small business website actually needs

You don't need anything fancy. A website that brings in work usually has:

  1. A clear headline that says what you do and where you do it.
  2. Your phone number at the top, tappable on a phone.
  3. A page for each main service.
  4. The towns and counties you cover, written into the page naturally.
  5. Real photos of your work.
  6. Reviews from real customers.
  7. A simple quote or contact form.
  8. Fast loading on a phone, because that's where most of your customers will find you.

Red flags to watch out for

Be careful if a provider can't tell you clearly who owns the domain name, won't give you access to your own site, locks you into a long contract without explaining what's included, or promises you'll be number one on Google. Nobody can honestly promise a ranking. What a good provider can do is set your site up properly and keep improving it.

We like to be upfront about our own prices too.

Either way, you'll know exactly what you're paying before we start.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a website for free in Ireland?

Some providers, including us, will build the site for free when you sign up to a monthly plan. You still pay for hosting and support each month, so it's worth comparing the total cost over a year or two.

How long does it take to build a small business website?

A straightforward site for a trade or small business can often be ready within a week or two, as long as we have your details, photos and services. Bigger sites with more pages take longer.

Do I need a .ie domain?

You don't have to, but a .ie address tells Irish customers you're a local business, and it's worth having if you mainly work in Ireland.

Is a cheap website worth it?

It can be, if it's fast, works well on phones and is set up properly for Google. A cheap site that nobody can find isn't a saving.
