SEO for Irish Trades and Small Businesses
This is the full picture of what we do to get an Irish trade found on Google, written plainly so you can judge whether it is worth paying for. No jargon, no ranking promises, and no pretending it happens overnight.
What SEO actually does for a trade business
SEO is the work of making your website the obvious answer when somebody in your area types what they need into Google. It is not magic and it is not a monthly fee for nothing. It is a series of small, boring, compounding jobs: making your pages load quickly, naming your services clearly, proving you are a real business with a real address, and giving Google enough signals to trust you ahead of the lad two towns over.
For a trade, the money is almost always in the searches that carry intent. Somebody typing "emergency electrician Rathmines" at nine at night is not browsing. They are ringing the first two or three results. SEO is how you become one of those results, and it keeps paying long after you stop spending on ads.
How local SEO works
Local search has its own rules. Google decides who to show based on three things: how relevant you look for the search, how close you are to the person searching, and how prominent you look compared to everyone else nearby. You cannot move your van closer to every customer, so relevance and prominence are where the work goes.
Relevance comes from your website naming the services and the areas you genuinely cover, in real sentences rather than a list of towns. Prominence comes from reviews, mentions of your business elsewhere online, and a profile that Google trusts. We work on both at the same time, because one without the other stalls.
Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile is the single highest value asset in local search and it is free. It is what feeds the map results and the panel on the right of the search page. We set the categories properly, write the description, load real photos of real jobs, list your services with descriptions, set your hours, and keep posts going out so the profile looks active.
We also make sure your name, address and phone number match your website exactly. Mismatches are one of the most common reasons a profile underperforms and one of the easiest things to fix.
Technical SEO
Technical SEO is everything that lets Google read and rank your site without friction. Page speed on a phone, clean page titles and descriptions, a sitemap that lists every page, a robots file that does not block anything important, structured data that explains what your business is, images that are sized properly, and no broken links or duplicate pages competing with each other.
On sites we build, this comes as standard. On sites we take over, we start with an audit and fix the issues that are actually holding you back rather than handing you a hundred page report you will never read.
Service pages
One page listing ten services will never rank for any of them. Each core service needs its own page with its own heading, its own explanation, its own photos and its own call to action. That is how you rank for the specific thing somebody searched for, and it is also how you convert them once they land.
We write these around how customers describe the job, not how the trade describes it. People search for a leaking shower, not for wet room remediation.
Location pages
Location pages work when they are genuinely about the place. A real page for Rathmines talks about the housing stock, the kind of jobs you do there, the response times you can offer, and the work you have already completed nearby. A page that swaps one town name for another across forty copies gets ignored, and it can drag the rest of the site down with it.
We build a small number of strong location pages for the areas that actually bring you work, then expand as the results come in.
Content that earns its place
Content for a trade business is not a blog for the sake of it. It is the questions you get asked on every quote: what does this cost, how long does it take, do I need planning permission, what happens if it rains. Answer those properly and you pick up search traffic and you shorten the sales conversation at the same time.
We write in plain language, in your voice, and we only publish something when it is useful to a customer.
Internal linking
Internal links tell Google which of your pages matter and how they relate to each other. A service page should link to the relevant location pages, the location pages should link back, and your guides should link to the services they discuss. Done well it spreads authority across the site and keeps visitors moving toward the contact form.
It is one of the cheapest wins available and most sites we audit are not doing it at all.
Citations and consistency
A citation is any mention of your business name, address and phone number on another site: directories, trade bodies, chamber listings, supplier pages. Google uses them to confirm you are a real, established business. Consistency matters more than volume. Ten accurate listings beat sixty with three different phone numbers.
We clean up what exists, fix the wrong ones, and add the listings that are worth having in Ireland rather than spraying your details across every directory on the internet.
Link building, done honestly
Links from other websites are still one of the strongest ranking signals. We go after the ones a real Irish business can genuinely earn: suppliers and manufacturers you work with, local sponsorships, trade associations, local press when you have something worth saying, and partners who already know you.
We do not buy links from networks. It works until it does not, and the clean up costs more than the rankings were worth.
Conversion optimisation
Traffic that does not ring you is a vanity metric. We make sure the phone number is tappable and visible on every screen, the form is short, the reviews are on the page where people hesitate, the job photos are real, and the page makes it obvious what happens after somebody makes contact.
Lifting your enquiry rate from two percent to four percent doubles your leads without a single extra visitor. That is usually the fastest money on the table.
Monthly reporting
Every month you get a short report in plain English: what we did, what moved, how many calls and form enquiries came through, which pages and searches are bringing them, and what we are doing next. No jargon, no fifty page export nobody reads.
If something is not working we tell you and we change it. That is the point of reporting.
What realistic results look like
Nobody can guarantee rankings, and anybody who does is either guessing or lying. Google changes constantly and your competitors are working too. What we can tell you is the pattern we see: the first few weeks are foundations and profile work, the first movement on longer, more specific searches usually shows around month two or three, and the competitive head terms take longer than that.
Local map visibility often moves fastest because it responds to profile work and reviews. Broad county wide rankings are the slowest. We would rather set that expectation on day one than sell you a miracle and disappoint you in month two.
Why our approach is different
We are a small Irish team and we build the websites as well as doing the search work, so there is no arguing between an agency and a developer when something needs changing. If a page needs rewriting or a new service page needs building, we just do it.
We also build the lead tools around it. Enquiries land in a system that chases them, our AI assistant answers questions on the site out of hours, and nothing sits in an inbox until Monday. Rankings are only useful if the work at the other end actually gets booked.
If you want the map results side of this in more detail, read local SEO in Dublin. If you need the website itself first, we build it free and charge monthly, explained on pay monthly websites.
SEO questions we get asked
How long before we see anything from SEO?
Local map visibility often moves within the first month or two once the profile and reviews are sorted. Website rankings for specific service and area searches tend to show around month two or three. Competitive county wide terms take longer. We report monthly so you can see the direction rather than guessing.
Do you guarantee first page rankings?
No, and we would be careful of anyone who does. We guarantee the work, the reporting and an honest answer about what is realistic for your trade and your area.
Do I need SEO if I already get work by word of mouth?
Word of mouth is great until a quiet month arrives. Most of the people who hear your name still search for you before they ring, so being easy to find and looking credible protects the referrals you already get as well as bringing in new work.
Is SEO included in the monthly plan?
Our standard plan is a free website build and €59.99 a month on a 12 month minimum, which covers hosting, maintenance and ongoing search work. If you want a heavier campaign in a very competitive area we will quote for that separately.
Can you work on a site you did not build?
Yes. We start with an audit, tell you honestly whether the site is worth improving or worth rebuilding, and go from there.
