Website or van signage: where to spend
Most trades are already spending money on getting noticed. Signage, leaflets, a sponsored jersey, a directory listing. It is worth asking what each one actually does before adding another.
What signage does well
A signwritten van works because it puts your name in the estate while you are parked outside a job. It is local, it is repeated, and it carries a quiet endorsement because a neighbour hired you.
What it cannot do is answer a question. Somebody who notes your number still goes and searches your name before they ring, and what they find then decides it.
What leaflets do well
Leaflets can work for a very tight area and a specific offer, especially straight after a job in the same road. They are a poor fit for anything that needs explaining.
They also expire. The spend stops working the day the bin goes out.
What a website does that neither can
It is there at eleven at night when someone has a leak and is searching. It shows the standard of your work in photos. It answers the price and area questions before you have to.
It is also the only one that compounds. Every service page and area page you add keeps working for years.
The honest answer
It is not either or. Signage and word of mouth generate the searches. The website and your Google profile catch them. Spend on signage with no website and you are sending people to nothing.
If you can only do one thing this year, get findable online first, because that is where the searches your signage creates end up.
Common questions
Do leaflets still work for trades in Ireland?
They can for a very local, specific offer, especially just after finishing a job on the same road. They rarely work as a general advertisement.
Is van signage worth it if I have a website?
Yes. Signage creates local awareness and searches, and the website converts them. They work best together.
